Termination of employment - whether voluntary or involuntary – marks the end of the employment relationship between the Institute and the employee. A voluntary termination occurs when an employee leaves a job on their own initiative, as with a resignation or retirement. An involuntary termination is one initiated by the Institute, and includes a layoff or discharge. Certain employees who terminate voluntarily or who are laid off and are later reemployed by the Institute may be eligible for reinstatement of some benefits (see Section 2.9).
